🏞 Must-See Stops Worth the Flight:

🌊 Blackwater Falls State Park

Located in the Allegheny Mountains, Blackwater Falls drops 62 feet into rugged canyon terrain — and it’s one of the most photographed spots in the entire state.

From the air? Stunning.

On foot? Even better.

The Blackwater River gets its name from tannin-darkened water, giving the falls that dramatic amber glow. It’s the kind of place that belongs in your flight adventure reel. 📸✈️

🏔 Dolly Sods Wilderness

High-altitude plateau.

Wind-carved boulders.

Stunted trees that look like they belong in Canada. 🍁

Dolly Sods sits inside Monongahela National Forest and feels almost otherworldly. Heath barrens, open meadows, sphagnum bogs, sweeping vistas — it’s rugged and raw.

This is terrain that looks incredible from above and unforgettable on foot.

🚂 Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad

Since 1991, this historic railroad in Romney, WV has been offering scenic rides through valleys and canyon country.

With roots dating back to 1875, it’s pure Americana — and a relaxing way to experience the landscape after you’ve flown over it.

Rail meets aviation. Old school meets cross-country. 🚂✈️

🧗 Seneca Rocks

One of the most iconic rock formations on the East Coast.

Sheer vertical rock faces rise dramatically from the valley floor.

The south peak? Only accessible by technical rock climbing.

It’s a favorite challenge for climbers — and one of the most recognizable landmarks in West Virginia.

From the air? Incredible.

On the ground? Legendary.

🕳 Smoke Hole Caverns

A show cave opened in 1940 — with serious character.

Legend says moonshiners used it during Prohibition 🍶

One entrance. Constant fresh water. Perfect hiding spot.

Inside you’ll find:

• The “World’s Largest Ribbon Stalactite”

• Rare helictites

• Crystal cave coral pool (found in only one other cave in the world)

• One of the tallest cavern ceilings in the eastern U.S.

Not your average tourist stop.

⛰ Spruce Knob (Spruce Mountain)

Highest point in West Virginia.

Highest point in the entire Allegheny range.

Spruce Knob tops out at 4,863 feet — and the surrounding ridge stretches 16 miles.

Whale-backed ridgeline.

Mountain air.

Views that stretch for miles.

For pilots who love elevation, terrain, and horizon lines… this one hits.
